Meeting of the officials of the Ministry of Finance and of the National Bank of Moldova with representatives of the diaspora in Washington D.C.

On October 12, 2017, in the context of the participation of the Moldovan delegation at the annual meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Washington D.C. hosted a meeting with the local members of the Moldovan community.

Finance Minister Octavian Armasu and Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Sergiu Cioclea, together with other members of the government delegation, had the opportunity to discuss with the representatives of the Washington D.C. community, providing an active framework for exchange of views and opinions.

Officials from Chisinau reviewed the achievements of the Government in implementing the ongoing and planned reforms to ensure economic growth through sustainable development for the benefit of all citizens. Among the main measures mentioned were the reorganization of the shareholder structure of banks, the modernization of payment methods and financial infrastructure in general, encouraging the development of small and medium-sized businesses, fighting corruption, increasing social payments, wages and more.

The efforts of the authorities to hire specialists from the diaspora were also discussed, along with the benefits of returning to the country and the impact of applying best practices of effective partnerships learned abroad that would have the effect of maximizing human and professional capital of the Moldovan diaspora.

Representatives of the diaspora also explained their views on these reforms and shared their own experiences and ideas regarding the improvement of the financial, social and educational system of the Republic of Moldova.
