Participation Holocaust commemoration event

On January 27th, 2017, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the United States of America participated at the International Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration Ceremony, hosted by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C.

The program of the event included speeches by Allan M. Holt, Vice Chairman of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Björn Lyrvall, Ambasador of Sweden to the United States, as well as survivors of the Holocaust. The commemoration Ceremony concluded with the memorial candle lighting of Ambassadors joined by Holocaust survivors, as well as other invited guests.

On the margins of this event, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova used this opportunity to bring to the knowledge of the representatives of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, as well as other guests, the importance assigned by the Government of the Republic of Moldova to efforts of fighting against discrimination, intolerance, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and racism. Hence, the participants at the commemoration ceremony were informed about the fact that on January 26th, c.y, the Government of the Republic of Moldova adopted the National Action Plan for the implementation of the Declaration of the Moldovan Parliament, from July, 2016, on the acceptance of the findings of the Report of the International Commission on the Holocaust adopted under the chairmanship of Elie Wiesel, this including the establishment of an official Holocaust Museum in Chisinau.

Note - starting with the year 2015, January 27th was established as the national day for the commemoration of the victims of the Holocaust in the Republic of Moldova.
