Republic of Moldova represented for the first time in the Community Solutions Program

On December 6th, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova to the United States of America attended the Community Solutions` fellows expo. The Republic of Moldova was represented for the first time in this program of the U.S. Department of State`s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, implemented by IREX (International Research & Exchanges Board). A word of greeting to the participants was addressed by Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs, Evan Ryan.

Community solutions, launched in 2010, is a professional development program for the best community leaders in the world working in the field of transparency and accountability, tolerance and conflict resolution, gender and environmental issues. These leaders participate in a fellowship for four months in the United States within a local non-profit organization or government agency. At the end of the program, participants develop a project that will be implemented in their home country.

Moldova's representative, Stella Utica, project coordinator at the Institute for Public Policy, followed experience exchange in state of Oregon and chose out of the 7 proposed subjects the "Civic Participation for Better Governance" one, elaborating, therefore, a project which envisages creating a Voter Engagement Platform.

92 leaders from 35 countries attended this year`s Community Solutions Program, hosted by 87 organizations and institutions from the United States. At the moment, under this program, 400 leaders have already influenced the lives of over 200 thousand people around the world through the developed projects.
