Visit to Washington, D.C. of Ambassador Natalia Gherman, the official candidate of the Republic of Moldova for the position of the UN Secretary-General

On April 19-22, 2016, Ambassador Natalia Gherman, Official Candidate of the Republic of Moldova for the position of the UN Secretary-General, paid a visit to Washington, D.C.

During the dialogue with senior officials of the US National Security Council and Department of State, N. Gherman has addressed the issues related to UN agenda and priorities of the next Secretary General.

The official candidate of the Republic of Moldova for the position of the UN Secretary- General met with representatives of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, including Senator Richard Burr, chairman of the Select Committee for Intelligence and Security; Roger Wicker, co-chairman of the Helsinki Commission; Congressman Joe Pitts, Chairman of Moldova Caucus in the HoR, members of Congress Jackie Speier, Cynthia Lummis and Anna Eshoo.

N. Gherman paid a visit to the headquarters of the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C. As part of consultations with the Eastern European group, the official candidate of the Republic of Moldova for the position of the UN Secretary General had discussions with the Ambassadors of Romania, Poland and Lithuania to the US.

The visit included participation in a series of events organized by think-tanks and U.S. academic centers: Atlantic Council; Wilson Center; School of Advanced Security Studies /John Hopkins University, Bipartisan Policy Center and Institute for Inclusive Security.

On the sidelines of the visit, N. Gherman gave interviews to Voice of America, Foreign Policy Magazine and Global Women's Leadership Initiative /Wilson Center.

At the end of the visit, N. Gherman met at the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova to the USA with the Moldovan Diaspora and a number of former US Ambassadors to Moldova.
