Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the US, Mr. Igor Munteanu, handed over the Letters of Credence to the Governor General of Canada, Mr. David Johnston


On February 8, 2011, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the US, Mr. Igor Munteanu, handed over to the Governor General of Canada, His Excellency Mr. David Johnston, the Letters of Credence as Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova concurrently accredited to Canada, with residence in Washington, DC.


During the meeting which followed the official ceremony, the Governor General of Canada highly appreciated our country's attachment to the prospect of EU integration, emphasizing the need to capitalize the competitive advantages of geographical position, to strengthen the political elite and the support of many friends the Republic of Moldova has not only in the EU but also on the American continent, Canada and US. The strategic partnership between Canada and EU comprises the interest for the processes of European enlargement and consolidation of young democracies in Southeastern Europe. The High Canadian Official called for galvanizing the bilateral cooperation with the Republic of Moldova, which he supports in its European integration, as well as for intensifying Moldovan-Canadian inter-parliamentary political dialogue.


The fact that the Republic of Moldova maintains an important relationship with members of the Moldovan community in Canada originating from Moldova - their experience of integration represents an important element of mutual trust in the Moldovan-Canadian dialogue on multiple dimensions - has also been mentioned. The Moldovan Ambassador noted the sustained interest of our country in attracting Canadian investments in clean energy projects, development of advanced technologies in food industry, as well as in extensive relations in inter-university cooperation, IT - priorities that will guide the agenda of relations with Canada.
