Round Table “Parliamentary Elections in the Republic of Moldova: perspectives, challenges and opportunities” organized in partnership with German Marshall Fund

  On November 18, 2010, Embassy of the RM to the USA under the umbrella of the German Marshall Fund Office in Washington DC organized a Round Table dedicated to the electoral process from the Republic of Moldova – “Parliamentary Elections in the Republic of Moldova: perspectives, challenges and opportunities”. The main scope of this event was to stimulate the interest of the academic and research community in report with the political process taking place this year in the Republic of Moldova, providing data and new perspectives on the possible results of the Moldovan elections, their impact on the internal reforms. The meeting was attended by a number of 45 participants – a record number for the GMF – including important officials from the Department of State (Larry Silverman), ambassadors (Azerbaijan), political institutions (IRI, NDI, NED, CIPE), think/tanks and numerous diplomatic corps representatives.

  The agenda of the event included two main presentations of Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova Igor Munteanu and of Mr. Ceslav Ciobanu, ex-ambassador of the RM to the USA. The event was moderated by Mr. David Kramer, recently designated as Executive Director of a prestigious organization “Freedom House”.

  The presentations were followed by a number of questions and comments from the presented audience, which covered a large specter of important issues. It is important to mention that this event additionally showed the attention on the evolutions from the RM which are and will be followed in federal capital of the USA.
